A city that never sleeps...a city of electrifying energy and excitement...the paradox of a city that seems both alien and familiar...we are delighted to present our first workshop in the Big Apple.

Both Valda and Terry know the city well. Valda has taken two workshops with Jay Maisel - a renowned photographer who finds beauty and meaning in a thousand different place and has portrayed this vibrant city like none other.

From the creative inspiration of the High Line to the autumnal beauty of Central Park and all manner of attractions in between - this promises to be a high-octane tour.

Led by Valda and Terry

Join Valda and Terry as they explore the street life and unique architecture of this vibrant city. Historic Art Deco rubs shoulders with modern glass and steel edifices and offers a feast for our creative brains.

The colourful characters and wonderful idiosyncrasies will further feed our imagination.

We will spend most of our time walking around the city - there is so much to explore - and we want to incorporate as much as possible

We will search out the best vantage point to capture the incredible skyline, the coolest bridges and the many neighbourhoods existing side by side - each of them offering a very different vibe. We will imbibe the creative energy of Times Square. From Broadway to The Bowery, we will push ourselves to see as much of this extraordinary city as time allows.

Please come and be prepared to get involved. This is not a workshop for passive observers - we will endeavour to do the city justice - not by shooting slavish imitations of so many souvenir postcards but by interpreting it in our own unique way.

It would be rude to visit the Big Apple and not shoehorn in a visit to B&H, so of course we will make time for this too (for those who are interested).

Naturally, we won't go hungry. The food in New York is legendary. We will dine in the crowded streets of Chinatown and Little Italy.  From Katz Delicatessen (where that scene from "When Harry Met Sally" took place) to the Grand Oyster Bar - 104 years old and tucked away in the bowels of Grand Central Station.... we will put an enormous amount of effort in choosing our watering holes and  restaurants in order that they satisfy our stomachs and our eyes. We know you would be satisfied with nothing less.

The evenings around the meal table are a happy time for good conversation about art, photography and all things creative - a time to enjoy each other's company, a time to make new friends and catch up with old ones.

A boutique hotel unlike any other in NYC, WestHouse Hotel New York is a  gracious retreat blending the plush comforts of an elegant Uptown apartment with the refined luxuries of a boutique hotel. Art Deco-inspired design and a private terrace with views across the city - the hotel is a place where art and design are celebrated at every turn.

Evoking the glamour of a 1920's Carnegie Hall dressing room, well-framed luxury comes standard in all accommodations, with beveled mirrors and cultured images of Hollywood and Broadway hanging from Art Deco picture rails. Captivating views of the city’s quintessential rooftops, enjoyed through expansive windows, are simply unrivalled among any luxury hotels in NYC, as are views of Central Park and Times Square

We will be travelling the length and breadth of Manhattan during our time here, however the hotel is centrally located, ensuring that evening meals can be taken close by and no destinations entail long journeys.

Breakfast is served daily in The Terrace on the 23rd floor and light fare and a curated selection of alcoholic beverages are on offer from 5-7 PM every evening. After a long day on our feet such offerings will doubtless be more than welcome.
